We are awareness. There is no separation between that which is spiritual or inner and that which is material – it is all one; for we are the awareness of both those ‘journeys’.
Each of us has a narrative about us which we live whilst we are alive (as well as after we have died). We are the daughter or son of so and so, we are a teacher, nurse, road sweeper, we like to race cars as a hobby or to eat breakfast in bed on a Sunday. These all go to make up the narrative of how we are, but it is not who we are. Whilst each person’s narrative is different, who we are is the same. It is this sameness that we must find in each other and acknowledge. We must honour diversity yet at the same time we must celebrate our oneness with all others.
The vastness of who we all really are is far greater than any story that anyone will live in this lifetime. You are as great as anyone you meet no matter what narrative surrounds them, be they a president and you a cleaner or you rich and they poor. When you step back from the external façade of each other to see the true nature of the person you will notice that you are both as one and as great and vast as one another.
Look for the underlying sameness with others today. If you are annoyed or irritated by another’s narrative; or how they are interpreting it, take a moment and remember it is only their surface self – their true self underneath is wonderful and great, it is in unity with yours. Use your true self to acknowledge it.
