Why living the life of your dreams is not being selfish

One question that has always puzzled me is ‘why are we here?’  It’s an age old question and I am not the first to ask it nor will I be the last.   Many years of thinking on it has led me to where I am now and the conclusion I have come to is that we are here because we have something unique within ourselves to bring to the world.  Each of us has a gift that we have been born with, something we don’t just enjoy doing but something that makes our hearts sing when we do it, it makes the time fly.  For some it is gardening, for others painting artworks, helping people or animals feel better; possibly it’s something that may not seem like a gift but you would do it even if you were not getting paid.

When we allow ourselves to live our talents we participate in a vibration that benefits not only ourselves, but those around us and further on from that the world.  I say allow ourselves to live our talents because all too often we deny ourselves the pleasure of doing what we truly love and at the same time deny the experience of being our true self.  When we fulfil that which we are meant to do and be, we enact the role we were created to play and by doing so move the energy of the world ever so closer to its optimum point.

So how does living purposefully and living your talents work for the average person who has a full time job, a mortgage, 2.3 kids, a spouse, dinners to cook or lawns to mow etc?  How do they fit in time to do what they love when they do not even have time to scratch?  It is a simple answer – you choose it.  Your life is hectic, you’re stressed – stop for a moment.  Be still… listen to your higher self…let your higher voice be heard, because there is to be found all the knowledge and answers you will ever need.  This is your true self; the part that you and your loved ones deserve to have around.  You choose to let it have a voice or you choose to drown it out with the noise of your mind (that little voice in your head that tells you you’re crap or you cannot have the life you really want).

We are not being selfish by living a life doing what we love and I am not suggesting that we have to or should spend 24/7 gardening or playing a musical instrument.  However the feeling that we get from doing what we love can be carried over into other areas of our lives and we can begin to love doing that as well.  When we honour a talent we are absorbed in the moment, our actions flow, we become one with the doing.  This same feeling can be applied to other areas of life.  When you are spending time with your children or even cleaning the house put your all into it, find an element of it you like and decide to enjoy it, take care that you are doing your best effort, be absorbed into the moment.  For in this moment it is all there is.  Life is about living; you cannot ‘live’ in the future or the past.  Your mind only think of these and that is not life.  For when you are thinking of times other than now you are missing out on the now.  It is passing you by; life is passing you by.
